Which exterior service do you need?

The exterior service you need depends on where the water or movement shows up. Ceiling stains usually trace to roof or chimney flashing, a wet basement often starts at the gutters, and heaved steps point to a failed masonry base. An on-site inspection confirms the source before anything is quoted.

Siding Installation & Repair in Bergen County, NJ

Siding does more than shape your home’s curb appeal — it’s a working barrier against moisture, wind, and temperature swings. When it cracks, warps, or pulls away, water gets behind it and problems spread fast.

We install and repair durable, weather-resistant siding that improves insulation, protects your walls, and gives your home a clean, finished look that lasts. From a few damaged panels to a full re-side, we’ll walk your property, talk through materials and budget, and deliver work built for the long haul.

Why North Jersey weather is hard on roofs, chimneys and masonry

North Jersey weather is hard on roofs and masonry because snow, heavy rain and long freezing seasons all drive water into materials. The Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist reports 40 to 50 inches of average annual snowfall in the state’s Northern zone, and NOAA says nor’easters are most common from September through April.

Water that soaks into mortar joints, brick faces and paver bases expands when it freezes, and a long cold season repeats that cycle for months. The climatologist puts the Northern zone’s average last spring frost around May 4 and first fall frost around October 7, and notes the zone sees about twice as many thunderstorms as the coast. Nor’easters add wind-driven rain and gusts that can exceed hurricane force.

That is why we treat most failures as water problems first: roof repair at flashing and valleys, chimney repair at crowns and joints, and gutters sized to move a hard rain away from the foundation.

How does a free estimate from NJ Gold Star work?

A free estimate from NJ Gold Star Construction, a roofing contractor in Bergen County, starts with a call or text to (862) 271-1225. We inspect the roof, chimney or wall on site, find where the failure starts, and give you a written, itemized price with no obligation to hire us.

04

Build and clean up

How to check a New Jersey home improvement contractor before you sign

To check a New Jersey home improvement contractor, search the registration on the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs license verification site and ask for proof of liability insurance. State law requires a written contract for projects over $500 that includes the registration number, start and completion dates, the work and the total price.

  • Look up the business in the Consumer Affairs license verification system. Our registration is #13VH13359900.
  • Ask for a copy of the contractor’s commercial general liability insurance policy, which the Division says must be provided.
  • You may cancel a signed contract before midnight of the third business day after you receive a copy.
  • Be wary of anyone who wants cash or more than a third of the price before work begins.

Our guide to choosing roofing contractors in New Jersey covers the questions to ask at the estimate.

Joanna L. · Google review · Skylight leak and roof repair

We are so happy we chose NJ Gold Star for our new deck! After getting several quotes, they offered one of the best prices without sacrificing quality. The crew was friendly, hardworking and incredibly efficient. They showed up on time, worked quickly, and the finished product turned out better than we expected! The best part is that they got everything done so quick that we are able to enjoy what is left of summer with hosting family and friends on our new deck. It’s refreshing to work with a contractor who does exactly what they promised, take pride in their work, but also customer satisfaction! Overall a wonderful experience! Would definitely recommend them to anyone, and will be using them ourselves again in the future!

I have been giving Edgar’s number out to everyone who mentions they have a roof problem! Honest, knowledgable, fair, kind, understanding. Some of those aren’t words you use to describe a company often and you certainly can with nj gold star! We have more issues that we plan on fixing around the house and he will be our first call!

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Small repairs — a pipe boot, a section of step flashing, a dozen blown shingles — typically fall in the low hundreds. Larger repairs involving valleys, chimney flashing or deck replacement run higher. We quote in writing before any work starts, with the scope itemized so you can see what you are paying for.

Repair when the roof is under roughly fifteen years old and the damage is isolated. Replace when there are multiple leak points, widespread granule loss, curling or cupping shingles, or a second layer already on the deck. We give you the honest call either way, in writing.

Most single-family homes in Bergen County are torn off and re-roofed in one to three days, weather permitting. Complex rooflines, multiple old layers, or deck repairs can add a day.

Crumbling or missing mortar, loose or spalling brick, a cracked crown, white efflorescence staining, rust on the damper or firebox, and water stains on the ceiling near the chimney chase. Any one of those means water is already getting in.

Once a year for a chimney in regular use, and always before the first fire of the season. Heavy wood burners may need it twice. Creosote is the fuel behind most chimney fires, so cleaning is a safety item, not maintenance.

Fiber cement holds up best against impact, moisture and temperature swings, and takes paint well. Quality insulated vinyl is the better value on most homes and performs fine for decades when it is installed with correct wrap and flashing.

Yes. Every estimate is free, written, and itemized, with no obligation. For active leaks and storm damage we answer around the clock and respond the same day whenever possible.

We hold New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor license #13VH13359900 and carry full insurance. We work throughout Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Morris and Union counties, and into Rockland County, New York.

Not for the roof covering on a detached one- or two-family home. New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code treats repairing or replacing any amount of existing roof covering there as ordinary maintenance, with no permit or inspection, although the work must still meet code. Work that alters structural members, such as rafters, goes through your town’s construction office.
